23 Sep In Memory of Jason Rabedeaux, Coach of Saigon Heat
I’m still in shock as I write this… Life is really fleeting, every person you meet and know would’ve made an impact in your life… no matter how small.
I got the news that the head coach of Saigon Heat, Jason Rabedeaux passed away peacefully on 22 September at his home in Ho Chi Minh city, Vietnam..
I may not have known him well, but Coach Rabedeaux left a lasting impression on me. A good one.
I first met him in the 4th season of the Asean Basketball League. Being very green in my job as a courtside reporter, I did feel intimidated by a number of people. However with Coach Rabedeaux, in the short time I spoke with him, be it on camera or just briefly on the court, I found him to be very friendly, open and I sensed a nurturing person as well. In fact, he was one of the few coaches who gave me feedback on what I asked/said during a game. Something which I was appreciative and grateful for..
The few times I met with Coach, being the friendly guy he is.. Coach Rabs asked for my namecard, which made me feel that I must’ve done something right in my work…. It was just only yesterday I was thinking that when I do meet him again, I’ll have one ready… I trust I will see you again in a better place. It was an honour and my pleasure meeting you Coach.
My deepest condolences to his family, his Saigon Heat team, friends and fans. We will always remember you Coach Rabs!
